Our vision for our students is to achieve academic success, social emotional growth, and understand career pathways, as well as to navigate a global society, make informed decisions, and attain a fulfilling career that is aligned with their interests and abilities. Working in partnership with educators, parents, and the community, school counselors can help empower students with the skills and knowledge necessary to be a productive and contributing member of society.
Academic Development directs school counseling programs to implement strategies and activities that support and maximize each student's learning potential. This comprehensive approach includes assisting with educational planning, offering study strategies, providing interventions and tutoring services, educational advising, and offering motivational support to boost confidence and overcome challenges.
Career Development guides students as they explore their options for the future. This component helps students recognize that there is a direct link between school and the workforce. A school counselor helps to guide students in their quest to understand their interests and values, set realistic goals, explore various career paths, make informed decisions, and help them develop the skills needed for a smooth transition into post-secondary life.
Social Emotional Development are competencies that are set to assist students in learning how to manage their emotions, develop critical social skills to help them interact with their peers, school staff, future employers, and the communities in which they reside. These competencies are taught through various platforms such as one one on counseling sessions, small group sessions, and in push-in classroom curriculum.
All school counselors have an ethical responsibility to uphold confidentiality with all of their students. Confidentiality is fundamental to the success of a comprehensive school counseling program that all school counselors are committed to maintaining. Information disclosed in sessions will be kept confidential in accordance with the professional standards of ethics guidelines.
Limitations of confidentiality:
In the situations listed above a school counselor must follow the legal and ethical requirements and procedures for reporting to other medical professionals and parents for assistance.
