district’s school counseling program and follows a set of ASCA standards. The programs that school counselors use are meant to address issues in terms of prevention as well as developmental. All curriculum used is usually designed to be comprehensive as well. Most instruction is delivered in the classroom as whole group teaching however, small group instruction, and one on one instruction is also practiced depending on the needs of the students. Students that receive small group and one on one instruction usually have follow-up sessions to make sure that the curriculum was received properly and to ensure successful implementation of the lesson. Counselors attempt to align their lessons with things that are included in the

Counseling is assistance that is provided by a professional that’s intent is to assist students who are struggling with anything that is hindering their ability to succeed. This service can be provided to a small group of students, via whole classroom instruction, or one on one. The main focus of counseling is to help students identify issues, the potential causes, and to assist the student to take appropriate action towards a solution or moving forward. Counseling can be both short- term or long-term depending on the students’ needs.

Consultation

Consultation

Consultation

A consultation is for counselors to either provide information, opinions, and recommendations to other people who are able and willing to help a student or to consult with other professionals about what they, as the counselor, can do to help or assist students.

Collaboration

Consultation

Consultation

Collaboration is exactly that. This process is when multiple professionals and people work with the school counseling program.

Referrals

Consultation

Referrals

This process occurs when the student is in need of services beyond the realm or qualifications of a school counselor. School counselors are meant to provide services that are brief in nature but sometimes students have deeper issues that require more long term services in which case the school counselor would do a referral for outside services.
